HOW IT WORKS
Referral & Registration
Food4Kids Waterloo Region supports children ages 1 to 14 who experience food insecurity at home by providing healthy weekend food packages. Referrals are typically made through a child’s school by a teacher, principal, or social worker, though families can also reach out directly. No formal documentation is required, just a simple process to ensure each child receives the support they need.
Food Package Assembly
This involves working together as a team to pack over 1400+ bags of food to help kids get through the weekend or school break! As part of a team, you will help make sure that all our food bags get packed, sorted, and ready to go to our kids the following morning.
Delivery & Accessibility
Delivery and accessibility focus on making sure support reaches every child who needs it. Food4Kids Waterloo Region delivers weekend food packages directly through schools or, during breaks, to children’s homes to remove barriers to access. Each package is designed with nutrition, cultural preferences, and dietary needs in mind, ensuring that every child can receive food safely, privately, and with dignity.-

Referral Program
Parents can sign up for Food4Kids Waterloo Region by contacting the organization directly or by speaking with their child’s school, teachers, principals, and school social workers can all initiate the referral.
While referrals often come through school personnel who identify children up to about age 14 experiencing food insecurity, families are encouraged to reach out themselves if they need support. The registration process is simple and typically doesn’t require formal documentation.
Once enrolled, children receive nutritious weekend food packages during the school year, with home delivery provided during longer breaks such as winter holidays, March Break, and summer.
The program is designed to remove barriers, preserve dignity, and ensure kids have reliable access to food when school-based programs aren’t available.
Corporate Partnership
We will now be offering sponsored team volunteer spots on Tuesdays for a 2-hour shift, called Tuesday Team Impact!
During this time, your team will work together to portion or pack food that goes directly to children in our program. We can accommodate teams of 6-18 people. Each session begins with a short talk where your team will learn more about our program, the impact of your support, and the difference you are helping make in the lives of local children. Then we will dive into the hands-on activity!
Your sponsorship is also eligible for a charitable tax receipt, and we are deeply grateful for both your volunteer time and financial support. Together, you make it possible for us to continue addressing childhood hunger in our community.
